Today I heard that Helen Fielding, the author of the Bridget Jones diaries has had an interview with the Today show talking about her new book. In her new book about Bridget Jones, she speaks of her character now as she has gotten older. A 50 year old woman, single and raising a child. She told Today that she wants American women, (and men) to know that 50 year old women, 'still got it goin' on'. Kudos to you Helen Fielding!!!!http://www.today.com/books/bridget-jones-author-women-50s-still-got-it-all-going-8C11357987

For all you over 50 women that are feeling frumpy and bad about yourself, HEY!!! YOU STILL HAVE GOT IT GIRLS! We have experience, we have energy, we have vitality, we have beauty and above all...we have sexuality!!!  Don't ever think you are used up or dried up....YOU ARE WONDERFUL! dress yourself up in confidence and appreciate all of your gifts!  And if you need a boost, read Helen Fielding's new book.

celebrate every day!

Yesterday I had the greatest pleasure of attending a women's tea. One of my customers, Lori Unser,
decided that she wanted to play dress up and enjoy her girlfriends company, so she created an event. She is a true believer that you cannot wait for life events to happen, you have to MAKE them happen. And so I was a lucky recipient of an invitation to this wonderful tea.

I looked forward to this event all week! Why? Because it was an event with no obligation. I didn't have to choose a gift or carry one in the car. I didn't have to buy a card. I didn't have to worry about anything...just me. Get myself ready in my "tea attire" and go enjoy. When I reached there, the positive energy in the room was overwhelmingly WONDERFUL!  So many women, in HATS, in pearls, in heels and in their own unique beauty! I was so over joyed to see some of the hats that I made!!!  It's a humbling experience to see someone love what you made, and feel confident and beautiful in it....I just sat there feeling so much joy I could have cried.

We had tea, we had scones, and we had little finger sandwiches.  All of this before a delicious chicken salad and then tiny cakes! YUM!

I want to thank Lori from the bottom of my heart! I made some new friends, I relaxed and enjoyed the company, food and good vibes!  She has the right idea!  Why do we have to wait until there is someone's birthday to have a party? why do we have to wait until someone dies to see old friends that we haven't seen in years?  We must start changing the way that we are living! Make a party to celebrate LIFE! We only get one chance................

I love me

Today I was reading MSNBC news on the computer and I noticed an article saying that a man has chosen euthanasia because his transsexual operation did not go as expected and he now views himself as a monster. This man ended his life. How sad. There are so many people...they come in the shop every day, struggling to live and to take that very next breath. They are suffering from cancer or some other terminal illness. But this man only saw his beauty, or lack thereof, on the outside.

 http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/05/20803178-painless-death-or-precipitous-cliff-transsexual-chooses-euthanasia-after-failed-operation?lite

I hope that when other people read this article, they will see the sadness as I did. Everyone on this earth has a purpose.

I worked in a nursing home for a time. I took care of a woman who was paralyzed from the neck down, her name was Louise. She was a school teacher and now just sat quietly in her wheelchair. As I was feeding her breakfast one day, I told her my woes of how my daughter is dyslexic and cannot read. She pointed me in the direction of her friend who was a professor at a university, and after a few sessions, taught my daughter how to manage her problem. And what a blessing it was that this was for FREE! You see, Louise had a purpose. She could not move, but linked up the right people to make a change in a young girl's life.

This man may have been a monster on the outside, but who knows what purpose is now thrown away because he thought he was not worth it. Believe me, every life is worth living. We do not know the grand master plan. What we do know is that life, no matter how wretched, no matter how broken, is still worth living.  And I am hoping that one of you remind me of this, if I ever get to the point that I feel I am not worth it.

Do God a favor today...............Love yourself

WE ARE MALALA!

On Monday October 7th at 10PM Diane Sawyer will interview Malala Yousafszi .
She was the 14 year old girl that was shot in the head because she wanted to go to school. I thought right away...'look at the strength of this young girl'   I was inspired and I thought of so many women in the world, many that are so much older than this young girl, who have no voice, no courage to say THIS IS WHAT I WANT!  and so today my blog is short and sweet.

MY SISTERS! LIFT UP YOUR FELLOW SISTERS! TELL THE PEOPLE WHO OPPRESS YOU TO STOP! TELL PEOPLE WHO ABUSE YOU TO STOP! TELL PEOPLE WHO TELL YOU THAT YOU CANNOT GO FORWARD TO STOP! IF YOUR SISTER DOES NOT HAVE A VOICE, SPEAK FOR HER! DO NOT BACK DOWN! DO NOT BE AFRAID!

Thank you Malala for inspiring the world. For speaking out. Every human being has a right to be heard. Every human being has a right to live as they choose. And who more deserving than women?...........

everything old is new again

My motto for my shop is 'RCMoore for the Unique Individual....because no one is quite like you'.....

People ask me why I chose that...well it was an accident. I've been to fashion week in NYC...I've lived all over the world and I have seen many women, men, fashion dos and don'ts and most of all people SCREAMING whether it is silently or out loud to be noticed. Why do we have that urge to be recognized as individuals?  Well..who likes to be like everyone else?  When you are on a football team you wear a uniform because you want to be a part of a group of people who have a common goal which is to win the game. When you go to schools with uniforms you are part of a student body...it shows school spirit to be a part of this body. That point I totally understand. But there is a group of us...call us non-conformists...that want to stick out. Be that peacock in an enormous flock of seagulls.

How can we look different? How can we dress different and still be individuals? Well...at my shop we have vintage and we also have clothing that has come from all countries and all walks of life. I have Moroccan djellabas and I have African warrior robes...I have styles from 20's,30's,40's...every decade. I have that ugly Christmas sweater that will fit at a party...and I have beautiful beaded dresses for photo shoots. Here...you will get the different. So you won't see yourself coming around every corner. I read in a magazine that capes are in this year. So am I going to see every woman in a cape? If capes are in this year, I would like to wear something different. Because what is IN with a magazine is OUT with me. More of us need to wear clothes that suit US...rather than what suits Elle Magazine or Vogue. I know for me...I look at some of these shoots in the magazines and think, ' what are they smoking?'  Print pants are not for everyone. My thighs are the size of tree trunks..why would I put a Balenciaga print on top of that? Everyone is as unique as a snowflake...isn't that great? Our body is a canvas in the morning/ What color would we like to wear? what mood are you in? Feeling funky? try a belt. Feeling blue? wear something comfortable and loose fitting. Feeling powerful? wear red. Isn't it great that we have a choice?

My job is about having a choice. Being YOU! Be an individual and enjoy life! We hope that you come in for some personal service and create a unique beautiful style that will fit your personality and your needs. Having a personal stylist create a wardrobe for you at no extra cost is something you don't find every day. Macy's cannot offer that. we hope to see you soon...you might find that you like something that you never even gave a thought to. Make it a colorful day!

Hormones

Yesterday I went to the gynecologist for my yearly exam. Lucky for me, as I took off my clothes to put on the gown, I noticed I got my gift from mother nature. How can that possibly happen? It's not 28 days yet!!!! No it's not, and welcome to menopause!!!  PARTAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!   All the fun started about 2 years ago. The sweats at night, then the chills right after, the cries....oh yes. The cheerio commercial makes me cry, any commercial involving puppies, small children and old people makes me a blithering idiot of tears. I carry a purse full of pads because I never know when the lucky day comes. God forbid I wear white pants. Then I'm crabby...oh yes. I will bite the heads off small children if they say something wrong. Everything irritates me. So, as I was putting ON my clothes to go home, my Dr. said to me...'have you considered hormone replacement therapy? I think your symptoms will ease up.' Well....I am not one to take pills. I try to do everything naturally. So I decided to do some research on the subject. I also decided to take a poll. So, every woman who came to the shop yesterday was subject to the question...'are you in menopause and if so, do you take hormone replacements?' I'm sure every one of them appreciated it. :P
Surprisingly...more than half are taking hormones...I did a study on the internet. I came across a very interesting website and here it is....
http://www.algarveresident.com/0-55146/algarve/hormone-replacement-therapy-hrt-to-take-or-not-to-take

I have decided against hormones for myself...but I will say this. I have decided to make major changes in my life. I've decided to be gentle with myself, and if I cry...i cry..so what!  If I forget something...it's not a catastrophe...I'll live. (unless I forget to feed myself...I'm sure that will not happen~!)  I've discovered, the more I keep active the less night sweats I have.  As far as crabby...I try to say positive affirmations..it gives me patience. I still keep my stash of pads in my purse and even the glove compartment. I'll just have to persevere with that one.  My eating? well...if I can't milk it, pluck it, pick it or catch it...I don't eat it. Fresh..that's the key.

So I say this to women out there...some days you are going to have a good day...so dress well and enjoy those days. Some days are going to be 'not so good' and on those days...dress comfortably and be gentle with yourselves. Make sure you do research as to what the best plan is for you. Your doctor is a good source but only YOU will know what is best for you. The internet has a vast amount of information. Always get a second opinion!  Don't be down on yourselves. Our grandmothers, and great mothers have survived menopause and we will too! and when all else fails.....RETAIL THERAPY...that's the best!  So come visit me in the store...or shop online, at www.rcmooreunique.com

Have a great day! and ENJOY being a woman!

great hair dying expedition of 2013

So last night I left work so so so tired! It was 7PM and I had to get my nails done because they were like tallons! too long, snaggy and chipped.  So off I went to my favorite place, Jade Hair and Nail Salon. My friend Dan did a great job on my nails and Jim was to trim my mohawk. But I was tired of the same ole same ole, so I decided to go back to black. I have a mysterious background and it is somewhat unusual. My mother is Italian, but my father was a Magyar gypsy. Fun, right? I think so. And when you are a gypsy, you are a piece of everybody. Maybe that is why I have such a diverse set of children (we have 6!) and 3 very different granddaughters. So I'm back to the original, Black hair....stay tuned for the hot pink streak...I think I need a little pizazz!

new day.....new hair

Today I am embracing my new hair.  I'm growing out my red mohawk and I don't know what to do, so in the meantime I am wearing 'bought' hair. I steered away from the curls today and wore a sleek short combo black and red 'do'.

For women out there, (and men) who are afraid to change their style I say this:

whatever you choose to wear, do, be....you do not need anyone's approval. What anyone else thinks is none of your business. Choose your style..own it, love it and strut like you are enjoying yourself. Soon you will find that other people want to adopt your style. Not because they like it so much, but they like how YOU wore it.

Today I am enjoying being WARM in my black cotton dress which I purchased way back in the 80's when I was very young. I belted it today and wore a warm pashmina over it. I am wearing my very comfortable gladiators because I am on my feet ALL day and then some. My work day starts at 10AM and I go home, (if I am lucky) around 11PM.

Own your look ladies, enjoy your style. There is only one of you...isn't that GREAT!?!

who should be your FASHION JUDGE??

This morning as I was getting ready for work I turned on the TV and randomly poked a button which brought up The Fashion Police.  I always liked this show, but it really bothered me for some reason today.
I don't like it when they 'poke fun' at someone for the sake of a laughs or ratings. This morning one of the 'actresses' who was a thick black woman wore an  orange dress and one of the panel said, she looked like someone spilled kool aid on a table cloth. Joan Rivers said, ' too much fabric!'  Of course there was alot of fabric, she is a lot of girl!  I thought for a moment, who should be a JUDGE over who is wearing too much fabric or who looks nice or doesn't look nice? Everyone has their own taste. Should anyone be made fun of for ratings or money? If these people left their homes feeling good about themselves as actresses or artists, then they have the right to wear anything they wish. These are creative people giving other creative people (who are designers) a chance to show their designs. People have a choice to be conservative or flamboyant.
No one has the right to make them right or wrong. I think the Fashion Police need to put themselves on probation. Lets think OUTSIDE the box people...a black dress with red shoes is as pretty as a black dress with black shoes. Let these people be unique....
